The Wine Room

(From our friends at The Wine Room in Irvine, California. They have a wicked way of putting things that we can’t seem to improve upon):

2002 Charter Oak Napa Valley Zin... if you allow Rob Fanucci to draw you into his realm...that being his super-packed “winery”...grandfather Guido’s cellar...you will leave knowing more about the core of the wine experience than ever before. The passion is ripping through his veins, his wine-speak animated and true, yet he probably will never make more than 500 cases of these two zins...ever! This “Estate” brute probably encompasses a whopping 10-15 short rows of fruit, but what friggin fruit it produces. This is a colossal zin that will have you thinking cabernet...it is most dense and compacted with blackberry nectar and wicked spirals of complex accouterments. The spiral dimensions include dusty choco-powder, indigenous bramble, real dust, hand spice and a multi-faceted rich oak. When we put this in our mouths, we beg forgiveness for this wonderful sin! A mouthful of lust awaits...you won’t be able to back away as you are drawn into this non-syrupy, sturdy juice. It possesses so many layers, but ultimately the pure pleasure is worth a thousand adjectives!

2002 Charter Oak “Monte Rosso” Sonoma Zin. Rob purchases these grapes at a mondo premium and may soon see this fruit source atrophy, but while the Sun shines he will continue. This is an attack wine...it is a full frontal assault on all of your wine senses...visual, olfactory, and oral! It will leave no survivors. Resplendent goo that will have you postulating when and who to serve it to, because so few are worthy of this gnarl. It hides nothing...this is an overt jam-packed fruit bomb...the background is exactly that...background...but it is as rousing as the fruit! You must partake with zeal and a whole bloody rack of ribs...pork, and/or beef!
